xNeomea

xNeomea is a bi-generic cross between Bromeliad genus Neoregelia and genus Aechmea. In other words, Neoregelia is the parent plant and Aechmea is the pollen plant. Most have long thin leaves that take on bright coloration in sunlight and the bloom is low in the cup. xNeomea should be grown like an Aechmea in moist but well-drained soil in a moderately sunny location. Some can take full sun but need to be slowly acclimated. Water often in spring and summer, keep drier in winter and avoid frost.

xNeomea 'Dotty' somewhat resembles Aechmea recurvata but it is quite different having soft leaves. Faint red bands and spots mark both sides of the leaves and the red intensifies when blooming. Makes a good terrarium plant with many water retaining leaf axials and matures at only about 7 inches tall. This Vinzant hybrid is a shy bloomer but offsets readily.
